Honoring Our Heroes: Celebrating National Nurses Week at Penobscot Valley Hospital

Each May, communities across the nation come together to recognize National Nurses Week, a time to celebrate the compassion, dedication, and professionalism of the nursing profession. At Penobscot Valley Hospital, this week holds special meaning. In our rural Maine community, nurses and frontline staff are not only caregivers—they are neighbors, friends, and lifelines.
Healthcare in a rural area presents unique challenges. Resources are often limited, access to specialists can be hours away, and staff wear many hats to meet the needs of their community. In the face of these challenges, PVH nurses continually rise to the occasion. Whether it’s a comforting hand in the Emergency Room, careful monitoring on the inpatient floor, guiding patients through surgery, or assistance during specialty care visits, our nursing team ensures every patient receives quality, compassionate care close to home.
“During Nurses Week, we recognize the extraordinary contributions of nurses nationwide. At Penobscot Valley Hospital, we are deeply grateful for the care they provide to our patients and the strength they bring to our community. Thank you for all that you do,” said Lisa Veillette, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at PVH.
Nurses at PVH serve in many roles—bedside caregivers, educators, advocates, leaders, and innovators. They are part of a tightly knit care team that includes lab techs, therapists, case managers, and support staff who work side-by-side to provide comprehensive care to our patients. This collaboration is essential in rural healthcare, where flexibility, teamwork, and communication make all the difference.
During National Nurses Week, PVH is proud to celebrate and recognize the nurses and frontline workers who make our hospital a place of healing and hope. Their work doesn’t stop at the hospital doors—it continues in schools, at community events, and in quiet acts of kindness that never make headlines.
To all the nurses at PVH and throughout the Lincoln area: thank you. Your service strengthens our community, brings comfort in times of uncertainty, and exemplifies the very best of our community.
