National Hospital Week: Celebrating the Heart of PVH

Each year during National Hospital Week, we take the time to honor the incredible people who make Penobscot Valley Hospital more than just a healthcare facility — they make it a lifeline for our community. From May 11th through May 17th, we proudly celebrate the staff whose skill, compassion, and dedication power every corner of our hospital.
At PVH, healthcare is truly a team effort. Every role matters, and together, we fulfill our mission:
“To be our community’s trusted healthcare partner, committed to the health and well-being of those we serve with compassion, quality, and excellence.”
In Patient Care, our nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, surgical team, emergency staff, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacy, lab and imaging technicians, cardiopulmonary staff, case managers, and those serving in our Medical Arts Building all contribute directly to the health and healing of our patients. Whether it’s providing hands-on care, performing diagnostics, managing treatment plans, or coordinating follow-up services, this group brings skill and heart to every patient interaction.
Our Facilities Management and Infrastructure team ensures that the hospital remains a safe, clean, and fully operational environment. This includes our dedicated staff in housekeeping, dietary services, maintenance, operations, IT, and central supply. Without their behind-the-scenes work, our frontline staff couldn’t do what they do — and our patients wouldn’t have the safe, supportive environment they need to heal.
In our Administrative Areas, professionals in patient access, billing, coding, human resources, fiscal services, quality improvement, and senior leadership keep our hospital organized, financially sound, and aligned with our strategic goals. Their guidance, coordination, and diligence allow us to meet state and federal standards while continuing to grow and serve with excellence.
As a rural hospital, PVH faces challenges that larger urban systems may not: limited staffing resources, financial constraints, and the need to provide a wide range of services with fewer people. But those very challenges also bring out our greatest strengths. Our staff members are flexible, innovative, and deeply committed — not just to their jobs, but to the people we serve. In rural healthcare, we aren’t just caring for patients — we’re caring for our neighbors, our families, and our friends.
During National Hospital Week, we celebrate each and every individual who makes up the PVH team. Your dedication and compassion are the reason this hospital continues to serve as a trusted cornerstone in our community.
And to our patients and neighbors — thank you for trusting us with your care. We are honored to serve you, and we remain committed to delivering the compassionate, high-quality healthcare you deserve.
Together, we are PVH — strong, resilient, and proud to serve.
