LINCOLN, ME, NOVEMBER 20, 2025 – As part of National Rural Health Day, Penobscot Valley Hospital has earned a 2025 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Patient Perspective. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards program recognizes top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes, and/or Patient Perspective. PVH is one of three rural hospitals in Maine to receive the patient perspective award.
This award reflects what matters most: our patients’ voices. Every day, our team works to deliver compassionate, high-quality care—and this recognition shows that our patients feel the difference.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff for their commitment, and to our community for trusting us with your care.
“Earning a Performance Leadership Award for Patient Perspective underscores the dedication of our staff and the strength of our patient-centered approach,” said Melissa Pelkey, CEO of Penobscot Valley Hospital said. “We are proud to be recognized among the top rural hospitals in the nation, and we will continue working to ensure every patient who walks through our doors receives exceptional care and respect.”
The Performance Leadership Awards program is based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing.
INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations, and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
